RSP registers highest saleable steel prodn in 2009

Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has concluded the calender year 2009 on a high note by notching up the highest saleable steel production of 2.02 million tonnes (MT) for any calender year. - CPSUs asked to tie up with 100 SMEs each - McNally Bharat bags order worth Rs 306 cr - "Settle SAIL workers" wage or face indefinite strike" - Strike hits work in Rourkela Steel Plant - RSP records over 100% capacity utilisation - RSP faces 40% cost escalation in expansion plan This was achieved due to best ever calender year performance in its Hot strip mill with production of 1.54 MT of Hot Rolled (HR) coil, RSP sources said. The plant has also concluded the calender year 2009 with achievements of more than 100 percent capacity utilisation in Hot Metal, crude steel and saleable steel production with impressive 110 per cent, 109 per cent and 120 per cent respectively. The plant has also registered improvements over the previous calender year in areas like production of galvanised sheets (7.6 per cent), ET Plates (14.1 per cent) and CRNO (1.6 per cent). The steel plant has created new benchmark in the field of techno-economic like coke rate, average lining life in steel Melting shop-II (SMS-II) Specifice Energy Consumption and make-up water consumption with all time best figure of 539 kg per ton of hot metal, 4540 HEATS, 7.03 giga calorie per ton of crude steel and 4.46 metre cube per ton of crude steel. The production performance in the first three quarters of the current financial year has also been very impressive with surpassing its annual targets. RSP produced 1.67 MT of hot metal, 1.57 MT of total crude steel and 1.44 MT of saleable steel thereby registering capacity utilisation of 111 per cent, 110 and 115 per cent respectively, the sources said. The Hot Metal production in past three quarters of the current financial year has been recorded as highest ever for any corresponding period since inception. On the techno-economic front, the steel plant recorded best ever performance in several key areas like coke rate (537 kg per ton of Hot Metal) and Specific Energy Consumption (7.01 Giga calorie per ton of crude steel). Inspite of the volatile steel market, rising input pricess and stiff competition, RSP could register an impressive performance.
