Ratnagiri Gas to begin power generation by March 2010

It was divided into three phases of 740 Mw each, which the government says would be functional by the month of March next year. "Dabhol project would generate 1,900 Mw by March next year...All the three units would start," Power Secretary H S Brahma told reporters here. At present, the project is running at 700 Mw capacity. NTPC and GAIL India hold 30.17 per cent equity stake each in RGPPL, while Maharashtra State Electricity Board holds 17.89 per cent and the rest is held by public sector financial institutions. The project is also receiving 5.67 mmscmd of gas from Reliance Industries KG basin. RGPPL ran into controversy with US-based GE for recommissioning of the project.
